2016 Residential Building of the Year – 1st Place
Building Use, Importance, and Newsworthiness: This building is a unique example of a beautiful home. The structure showcases the versatility of post frame construction, from its custom silo entry with open span ceilings and a one-of-a-kind catwalk to the theatre room. The silo had its own difficulties but our drawing and crew teams worked hard to make this dream a reality for the Marshalls. Built-in the rural Iowa farmland, the owner’s custom designed a plan to portray a barn and completed it with a gorgeous two-story fireplace. The rustic atmosphere is completed by an extravagant open staircase and loft of oak and metal spindles, with oak flooring
and tile throughout.
Unique Features: The silo has radius walls to match the house to the garage. The roof was framed to have eight sides to a point.
Post-frame Advantage: The low cost of construction and the uncommon design made post frame construction the answer for the Marshall’s. The other added benefits were quick construction time, efficiency for heating and cooling, and ease of maintenance.
