2017 Livestock Facility of the Year – 2nd Place
Building use, importance & newsworthiness: This is a beautiful Monitor style post-frame building for the family’s show cattle. Two lean-tos have been added for garage space and cattle stalls. The owners chose to finish the second story for recreational use. The Monitor barn style was selected to keep with the look of an antique barn, but features a metal exterior for low maintenance. Rubber surface flooring was chosen for the main level to provide a softer walking surface.
The post-frame building has a laundry room/bath on the main floor, stalls, cooling room for show livestock, fitting area and storage for a livestock trailer. The second story is complete with a kitchen, great room and bathroom.
Unique features: accordion barn doors, 3 Dutch doors, two cupolas, a 12×48 lean-to and a 14×48 lean-to.
Post-frame advantage: Post-frame construction was chosen for ease of maintenance, speed of the building process, and the durability of materials necessary for working with livestock on a daily basis.
