2018 Livestock Building of the Year – 1st Place
Building use, importance & newsworthiness: This 60×208 livestock facility was built for Stan and Jean’s sheep operation. Half of the building is lined and insulated to house lambing ewes. The other half of the building is separated with overhead doors into open air pens. Stan & Jean put much research into the proper living environment for their building and incorporated many unique resources to do so.
Unique features: The lined and insulated portion has an office/wash area, in-ground waterers, large vent fans for proper air circulation, and large doors for equipment to easily move into the building. Galebreaker was installed in the open post end for wind and heat protection while offering plenty of airflow.
Post-frame advantage: Post-frame construction offered a large building with tall exterior walls for oversized doors and equipment, well-ventilated rooms for livestock, and large clear span.
