Meet Nolan Gerber, Architectural CAD Drafter and Materials Specialist from our Washington office. Many of our customers have worked with Nolan when drafting their floor plan and building design.
Hometown: Born in Ohio, lived in Indiana 17 years before moving to Kalona, IA
Started at GB in: 2012
Nolan is married to his lovely wife, Lori, of 20 years, with a busy home running to school and sporting events for his children: Sarena (17), Evelyn (14) and Micah (12)
Favorite Food/or restaurant we may find you at: Homemade pizza/HuHot is our favorite restaurant
Favorite Hobby/ies: Watching the Buckeyes or any other sport on TV, doing projects on our house and around the farm, and watching our kids play sports
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? Europe, to see the many different cultures and eat the food.
Favorite tool to use in your everyday career and why you couldn’t be without it: My mouse—because drawing on CAD would be difficult without it
What might be an interesting fact about yourself that others may not know? I just started running last year and have logged almost 500 miles in 2018
What brought you to GB? Was searching for drafting jobs in Iowa when looking to move from Indiana to my wife’s family farm
Do you have a particular GB job that you have been involved and really take pride in? The Marshall job with the silo. I spent several hours on the phone with the foreman Steve getting the round walls and roof system to work
What is the favorite part about your career? That each day brings a different challenge
What do you really enjoy about working at GB? Working with sales and project managers to make a project come together for a beautiful final product. I enjoy driving by or seeing pictures of finished buildings to see how they turned out.
How has the post frame industry changed for you? Over the past 6 years, I have seen more residential projects come through on our jobs.
What is your favorite exterior building color/combination. Black roof, Autumn walls and Brite white trims
Do you have a special quote or saying you live by or resonate with and why? We don’t have problems to deal with, just opportunities to grow. I try not to see the issues that arise in building as negative, but just ways to grow.
Do you have a bucket list item you would love to accomplish? Run a marathon someday
Any other fun facts about yourself you would like to share? Hmmmm. I’ll pass on this one. ????
